Signature Home Scents

Confession: I love a candle. I love fragrance. But what I do NOT love is an overwhelming scent or fragrance. I prefer an easy, appealing scent and not an overwhelming Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar circa 1998 (please tell me you know what I’m talking about).

For as much as I love a candle, I’m really leaning into the idea of simmer pots and creating a signature home scent for entertaining in 2024. I tend to stress about if I blew a candle out, and I’m trying to eliminate miscellaneous stress in 2024.

Today, I’m sharing a simple simmer pot that I put together the other night while cleaning and taking down Christmas decorations (I needed something to make the take down more fun).

This is super simple, and can be adjusted depending on your scent palette. I think this will be really great for open houses as well; just a light and friendly fragrance for your current home (or a home I’m hopefully selling for you)!

If you give it a try, I would love to know!

Recipe/Instructions
Place a large pot, or dutch oven, about 3/4 of the way full of water on a large burner on your stove. In the pot, add one tablespoon of vanilla extract, two sliced lemons and four sprigs of rosemary. The rosemary can be tied together or loose. Bring the water to a low boil and then reduce the temperature. Set the temperature to just above low (think a 2-4 if your range has numbers on it).
Simmer on low for the entire time you want the fragrance. You can reuse this scented water two to three more times if you place the water in a mason jar or glass bowl in your fridge.

What other fragrance combos do you think would be good?! Lemon and mint? Something with orange? Let me know!
