Farmer’s Markets: Where and When

It’s no secret that I love to cook (and eat out). Another thing I love? A good farmer’s market. The Charleston area is crawling with fun farmer’s markets, each one is a little unique to that area. This list, and what I love about each market, will be such a great tool for your daily lives AND when we’re out shopping for your future home! Such a nice treat to know what markets are near the neighborhoods you are looking at!

-Charleston Farmer’s Market: This is the big daddy of local farmer’s markets. Saturdays in Marion Square, 8-2, starting in April. I love this one because it’s such a good vibe. Easy to grab a coffee and a morning pastry (maybe at Welton’s) and then take a farmer’s market stroll. There are so many good vendors, too many to pick a favorite!

-Ackerman Park: West Ashley’s farmer’s market, and my personal local favorite. I think this is my favorite because it’s in my backyard and I can walk to it. Wednesday afternoons, 3-7, this one always has live music and there’s almost always a new-to-me food truck. Lately, I’ve been doing a late afternoon 2 mile power walk and ending it with a farmer’s market stroll.

-Sunday Brunch at The Pour House: One of James Island’s farmer’s markets, this one is every Sunday morning, starting at 11, in the outdoor space at The Pour House. In my opinion, this is one of the most eclectic, fun markets because it has so many makers. I love to grab Rio Bertolini’s pasta and pizza dough on Sundays from here!

-Sea Island: This Johns Island market is on Saturdays, 9:30-1:30 and is perfect for those on Johns not wanting to traipse all the way downtown!

-Holy City Brewing: Another Sunday market! Holy City Brewing is so good about hosting evens, and this weekly market is no different. On Sundays, 11-3, this is the perfect stop on your day to grab a local brew and local bites.

-Mt. Pleasant: This Tuesday afternoon market is a favorite for me, even though I have to cross the bridge to attend. Tuesdays, 3:30-7:30, are such a great market day and this one just has such a great late afternoon family feel. For some reason, this market just makes me think that everyone is going home and cooking organic, homemade meals as a family. It’s so idyllic.

-St Johns: Wednesdays, 3-6, on Johns Island are a second opportunity for those on Johns to grab their farmer’s market goods. Another great way to shop local, without having to trek downtown.

I think what I love about our local farmer’s markets is that there’s something for everyone and you never really know what you’re going to find! I really love the chance to find new brands and vendors. The Sunday Brunch farmer’s market is how I first discovered BkdShop donuts and that delicious cereal milk donut 🙂

Do you have a favorite market?!
